In July, we told you a story of Ms. Cleckley, who cares for her 50-year-old son as well as her brother due to their disabilities. Her bathroom was unusable, and structural issues were making it difficult for her and her family to stay in their home.
Today Ms. Cleckley expresses overwhelming joy and gratitude for her new restroom! "I went in my bathroom, and I shut my door, and I sat there for an hour, crying," tears of happiness, she told GenesisHOPE when we checked in with her in September. "Oh, Lord… You just don't know how much I appreciate them."
Ms. Cleckley had dealt with the state of her bathroom for over two years and was forced to improvise. "When I met Ms. Spencer (our Community Relations Coordinator), she promised me GenesisHOPE would help me regardless of how long it took. I said, 'You mean to tell me there are still people out there who would help you like that?' I tried to do it on my own, but when I met her, it was a Godsend. Ms. Spencer just kept right on trying to help me. There are no words to explain it. It's just a Godsend."
Through the help of our generous supporters and the diligent work of our staff and partners, we were able to repair Ms. Cleckley's bathroom, and she was able to stay in her home.
"They did a wonderful job within a reasonable amount of time, and they were all very friendly." Ms. Cleckley says,
"If it weren't for COVID, I would have given them a hug!"
